Paphos - Aphrodite’s Birth Place
According to legend the Goddess of love and beauty -Aphrodite- was born in Paphos area. She is believed to have emerged from shoreline where Aphrodite’s rock stands in glory.
It came as a pleasant surprise when I first came to know that the whole town of Paphos is listed by UNESCO in its World Cultural Heritage list. Paphos was the capital of Cyprus during Hellenic and Roman times. Paphos is different in many ways than other towns of Cyprus and its not easy to describe its multi facet character. One has to simply experiance the place.
Besides the world heritage sites, museums, ancient monuments, churches, monasteries and excavations things not be missed are coral bay, Paphos harbour, banana plantations, Cedar Valley, aquarium and Petra tou Romiou – the Venus Rock (Aphrodite’s Rock). The view from the old Limassol-Paphos road of Aphrodite Rock is one of the best natural scenery I have ever seen anywhere.
