Nicosia - The Last Divided Capital in Europe

The seat of power, the 1000 year old town, Nicosia is the biggest town in Cyprus. A perfect mix between history and modern Europe, Nicosia became capital of Cyprus as early as in 11th century AD. The divided walled city has developed in last 10 years as a cosmopolitan centre but is also proud of its heritage and medieval buildings that include several ancient structures, churches and museums.

Not to be missed is a walk down the Ledra street towards the 'GreenLine'.

Other than the several museums and churches, main places of interest in and around Nicosia are :

- Venetian walls : 4.5 kms stretch of fortress walls built in 16th century by venetians.

- Laiki Geitonia : a renovated pedestrian section restored with alleys and traditional buildings.

- National Forest Park, Athalassa: Spread over 840 hectares - nature trails, cycling treks and picnic areas and reservoir.

- Walk around PediaĆos river bed.

- Makarios avenue : centre of activity -shopping, coffee shops.

- Ostrich Farm and Park : hundreds of Ostriches in friendly environment.
