Have More water, Need Still more

Freak weather last week was not only a relief from the oppressive heat but gave some 6 million cubic meters of water to the Cypriot dams. The dams are now 35.6 percent full compared to barely 9.9 percent last year at this time. Yippee!
We are getting a lot more running water now. Our plants look happier, our windows cleaner. Nobody is complaining about the water cuts anymore. It is amazing when all your privileges are withdrawn and then some given back, you cherish them much more than when you enjoyed all of them. For years we did not think about water; it was always there. One year of having to wait for water to use the washing machine and dishwater has made us value it more and waste it less.
Rain Gods have really been kind this winter. Last month when we were flying into Cyprus the aerial view was fantastic; I do not remember seeing it this green for a long time. There were a million shades of green in the meadows and everything looked clean and somehow more cheerful.
Cannot afford to be complacent or relaxed, though. It was just a taste of how bad things can be. The state is doing its bit; we need to contribute by behaving more responsibly. Water saved is water rained.
