You would almost miss Cyprus if you did not know what you were looking for on the map.
Cyprus is a divided island of about 10,000 sq kms in the east of Mediterranean sea, with less than one million population. But its historical lineage and strategic geographical location also make it one of the most important islands in the region. Its 10,000 year long history has seen civilizations come and go. Cyprus books recount countless legends of the brave and the beautiful. Its history is populated with the greatest historical names from Alexander the Great to Cleopatra.
Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and lust emerged from the sea here and made it her home. Travellers throughout the antiquity came here just to pay her tribute. Others came to rest, to find sanctuary and peace.Cyprus today is a beautiful blend of East and West, old and new.
As a European nation - the farthest eastern border of Europe, it is as modern as any European city but at its core lie oriental mysteries. Within this small land surrounded by turqoise beaches are rich people living on a gifted landscape. The island is blessed with warm Mediterranean sun throughout the year. The villages are charming and hospitable with taverns always open like a window into the heart of these people.
Cypriots are not embittered for being wronged and have found it in themselves to still carry on resiliently and have faith in humanity.
This beautiful island , has been my home for 10 years. I moved here with my husband and a 3 year old son from India and our younger son was born here. This web blog is about my life on this island. It is also a tribute to this wonderful nation where I have spent 10 years of my life and aged a lifetime in wisdom through unforgettable lessons in human compassion and greatness of spirit.
This is my Thank You – Efcharisto Poli - to this lovely Nation which has meant so much to me and my family.
